Performance
You can expect one of two engines under the hood of the 2023 Mazda CX-5. The standard engine that comes with the Mazda CX-5 is a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine that makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. This base engine pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. If more power is needed, then there's an optional 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that makes 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. As with the base engine, this turbocharged variant comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard with all trims.
Technology
Tech options are quite robust with all trim levels. The Mazda CX-5 S trim comes standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 4-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The S Select trim takes things a bit further by coming with a 6-speaker audio system and rear USB ports. The S Preferred trim doesn't make any tech updates. You'll have to step to the S Premium Plus trim if you're looking for additional tech. The S Premium Plus comes with a head-up display and a 10-speaker Bose audio system. The Turbo trim adds wireless charging while the Turbo Signature (top-level trim) comes with a navigation system, a 360-degree camera system, and increased driver assistance features.
Interior Features
The Mazda CX-5 offers up quite a range of interior features. Starting with the base S trim ensures a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth-trimmed seats, remote keyless entry, push-button start, and a roomy cabin. The S Select trim allow for increased comfort thanks to dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, rear air conditioning vents, and faux leather upholstery. The S Preferred trim adds leather upholstery and a sunroof while the S Carbon Edition adds black or red leather upholstery. The S Premium Plus trim boasts heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate. Moving to the Turbo Signature trim ensures wood trim, upgraded leather upholstery, and ambient interior lighting.
Safety
The Mazda CX-5 leaves little to be desired in terms of safety features thanks to an impressive set of standard offerings. All trim levels come with at least the following driver assistance features: forward collision mitigation, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, lane departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. If you're interested in adding additional driver assistance features, then the S Premium trim offers up adaptive headlights. The Turbo Signature trim comes with parking sensors, rear automatic braking, and a 360-degree camera system.
